Traps

Pots and Buoys Hydrapot Hauler

Traps are marked by buoys with the fishermans identification numbers.

Hydralic pot haulers are used to retrieve longlines and traps.

Traps

Strings of traps [3-7] on a long groundline will also have a radar reflecter to make locating in fog and retrievel easy.

These traps are five feet in diameter and stackable. They will be placed on one mile of  groundline in 200 to 400 fathoms of water in 3 "strings" of 5 traps each. They can catch over 300 pounds of Blackcod per trap.

Rectangular Traps
Trap Funnel

Fish traps can be rectangular or round.

Near-shore Traps
Near shore traps (pictured on the left) are fished in 10 fathoms or less. They are set and pulled two or three times a day. The fish are delivered alive to the buyer. One advantage is sub-legal fish are returned to the ocean alive. This fishery is regulated by indivual quotas and a size that targets fish after they have spawned a least once.
